Card Shark

Card sharks use strategies, tricks and refined skills. In some cases it took them years to learn their craft and every trick they use is considered to be a trade secret.

Some of the cheating strategies exposed at CARDSHARK online (a website maintained by an independent researcher with an interest in crooked gambling) are old tricks; others fall into the category of closely kept secrets of the gambling community.

Anyone who takes advantage of an opportunity and acts upon it is a cheat. A card shark on the other hand is someone who cheats as their main source of income and knows exactly when and what to do to and how to do it and not get caught. All the cheating strategies a shark would apply are premeditated and well rehearsed.

Following is a list of some safety procedures you can take to minimize the risk of being cheated by a card shark:

Follow Secure Shuffling Procedures - General gaming rules say that another player must take a turn dealing after every round.

Follow Secure Cutting Procedures - Always use a cut-card or a face-up Joker. At the completion of the shuffle the dealer must square the deck and offer it to the player to his right (or left in some games) to cut. The dealer holds the deck and the other player inserts the cut-card into the deck, but leaves it protruding. The dealer should then openly cut the deck at that point and carry the upper half along with the cut-card away, and place it on the table. You should always cut the cards and never allow others to skip the cut. This is either a bad habit or a cheating strategy, and should not be allowed in a straight game.

Follow Secure Dealing Procedures - Even if you use a cut-card still request that everyone deals by keeping the deck on the table the whole time.
